The short answer

Yes, you can build an app with AI for free in 2026. These seven builders all have a free plan:

  1. GenMB: 8 credits a day, up to 40 a month, plus 40 welcome credits. Unlimited apps and free publishing.
  2. Bolt.new: 1M tokens a month, with a 300K daily limit. Hosting and databases included.
  3. Lovable: 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits a month.
  4. v0: 7 messages a day, with deploys to Vercel and GitHub sync.
  5. Base44: 25 message credits a month and up to 5 apps.
  6. Replit: daily Agent credits on the Starter plan and 1 free published app.
  7. Emergent: 10 credits a month.

Firebase Studio is not an option for new users. Google stopped new sign-ups on 22 June 2026.

How we ranked them

We asked one question: how far can a non-developer get without paying? That means a working app, live on the web, with somewhere to save data. We looked at five things:

  • How much you can build each day and each month
  • Whether you can publish on the free plan
  • Whether you can use your own domain
  • Whether data and a backend are included
  • Whether you can take your code with you

GenMB is our product, so we list it first. The facts for every other tool come from that tool's own site, and we point out where others beat us.

1. GenMB: best for building and publishing a full app for free

GenMB turns a plain-English prompt into a full-stack app (React + TypeScript, built with Vite and Tailwind CSS) and publishes it to the web.

What the free plan gives you:

  • 8 credits a day, up to 40 a month
  • 40 welcome credits when you sign up, valid for 7 days
  • Your first two chat edits are free
  • A chat reply that changes nothing is free, and so is a failed action
  • Unlimited apps, live preview, and version history
  • Publish to a free genmb.com subdomain with HTTPS
  • Saved data and backend functions in every app
  • Up to 3 visual workflows and up to 2 scheduled agents
  • Installs as a mobile app (PWA)
  • No credit card needed

What it costs: a simple app is 2 credits, a full-stack app with a backend is 6, and each chat edit is 1 to 40 based on size.

What you pay for: a custom domain, removing the "Built with GenMB" badge, private apps, the code editor, ZIP export, and GitHub push all need Pro ($25/month). Pro also adds a full database for up to 10 apps. If you only want more building time, Starter is $9/month for 100 credits with no daily limit. Credit packs start at $5 for 25 credits.

Where others are ahead: Bolt.new gives a bigger raw allowance, and Lovable and v0 let you sync code to GitHub for free.

Best for: people who want a working app with data, live on the web, without paying.

2. Bolt.new: best for a large free allowance

From bolt.new/pricing:

  • 1M tokens a month, with a 300K daily token limit
  • Website hosting, up to 333K web requests
  • Unlimited databases
  • Public and private projects
  • 10MB file upload limit
  • Bolt branding on your site
  • A custom domain needs Pro ($25/month)

Bolt counts tokens, so how far the free plan goes depends on the size of each request.

Best for: people who want the most room to experiment on a free plan.

3. Lovable: best for polished React apps and free Git sync

From lovable.dev/pricing and Lovable's plan docs:

  • 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month
  • 20 Cloud credits a month for hosting, plus 4 credits for AI features inside your app
  • Workspace-private projects
  • Git sync with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket
  • A custom domain, removing the "Edit with Lovable" badge, and editing or downloading code need Pro ($25/month)

Best for: people who care most about design and want their code in Git from day one.

4. v0 by Vercel: best if you deploy on Vercel

From v0.app/pricing:

  • 7 messages a day
  • Deploy apps to Vercel
  • Edit visually with Design Mode
  • Sync with GitHub
  • $5 in one-time credits for new users
  • Plus is $30 per user per month

Best for: people building front ends who already use Vercel.

5. Base44: best for a backend included from the start

From base44.com/pricing and Base44's billing docs:

  • 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month
  • Up to 5 apps
  • Authentication, database, and analytics included
  • Private apps are a paid feature
  • Connecting a domain and removing the Base44 badge start on Starter ($16/month billed yearly)
  • GitHub integration starts on Builder

With 25 credits a month, it helps to plan your prompts.

Best for: small internal tools that need sign-in and data.

6. Replit: best if you want to learn to code

From Replit's Starter plan docs:

  • Daily credits for Agent, up to a monthly cap
  • Lite build only; Full build needs Core or Pro
  • 1 free published app, and the link goes down after 30 days
  • A "Made with Replit" badge on published apps
  • Monthly credits you can use for databases, storage, and publishing
  • Core is $20/month ($18/month billed yearly)

Best for: people who want an IDE next to the AI and plan to read the code.

7. Emergent: best for full-stack and mobile apps

From emergent.sh/pricing:

  • 10 credits a month
  • Core platform features, for web and mobile apps
  • Private hosting and GitHub integration are on paid plans
  • Standard is $20/month ($17/month billed yearly)

Best for: people who want a Python and MongoDB backend or native mobile builds, and plan to upgrade.

Firebase Studio: closed to new users

From Google's Firebase Studio docs: new sign-ups and new workspaces stopped on 22 June 2026, and Firebase Studio shuts down on 22 March 2027. Existing users can move their workspaces to Google AI Studio or Google Antigravity.

Tips to get more from any free plan

  • Write one clear first prompt. Say who the app is for, the main screens, and what data it saves. A good first build saves many edits.
  • Batch small changes. Ask for three fixes in one message, not three messages.
  • Ask questions before you edit. On GenMB a reply that changes nothing is free.
  • Publish early. A live link is the fastest way to get feedback.
